Nick Saban recently advised Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian to prioritize performance consistency over player reputation regarding quarterback Arch Manning. Following a narrow 34-27 victory against Ole Miss on October 24, where Manning recorded three turnovers, Saban suggested that the threat of losing his starting position could serve as necessary motivation for the young signal-caller.
Prior to the Ole Miss game, Texas had suffered consecutive 27-24 defeats against Oklahoma and Florida, leading Sarkisian to evaluate backup K.J. Lacey Jr.
during practice sessions. While Manning remains the starter, Saban emphasized that Sarkisian must be prepared to make a change if the quarterback fails to maintain high-level play during the team's push for a College Football Playoff berth.
