Football analyst Nick Saban recently suggested that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian should maintain pressure on quarterback Arch Manning by keeping the threat of a benching alive. Saban noted that benching high-profile performers can be an effective motivator for fierce competitors, pointing to his own history of substituting quarterbacks during critical moments at Alabama.
Manning has experienced an inconsistent campaign marked by costly mistakes in late-game situations during both of the Longhorns' defeats, though the team managed to avoid a loss against Ole Miss despite similar errors.
Ahead of a challenging November schedule featuring matchups against Mississippi State, Missouri, LSU, Arkansas, and Texas A&M, the eleventh-ranked squad currently sits at five wins and two losses. Backup quarterback KJ Lacey has seen limited action this year despite receiving additional repetitions with the first-team offense during practice sessions.
Saban emphasized that Manning must display greater stability for the program to successfully win out the remainder of their regular season games and secure their projected standing.
