Week 5 of the NFL season delivered mixed performances from former Michigan players, with standout moments and concerning trends alike. The Cincinnati Bengals dominated the Miami Dolphins, as quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 190 yards and four touchdowns, while wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase contributed with 77 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars struggled in London, with wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. failing to convert any of his three targets against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson shone with six catches for 79 yards and a touchdown, though his end-around attempt resulted in a loss. The New York Jets’ Mason Taylor caught all three of his targets, while the Houston Texans’ Danielle Hunter led the defense with two quarterback hits and a sack, despite cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.’s absence from the stat sheet.
Injuries also marred the week, as New England Patriots offensive tackle Will Campbell exited early with a potential season-ending injury, and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels faced criticism for running out the clock instead of throwing away the ball in overtime against the New York Giants.
