The NFL has suspended line judge Jeff Seeman for two games without pay following a heated confrontation with Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during Sunday’s matchup against the New York Giants. The incident occurred on a third-and-two play in the fourth quarter, where McBride was aggressively engaged by Giants defender Dru Phillips before the ball even arrived.
Despite clear physical contact, no holding or pass interference flag was thrown, leaving McBride visibly frustrated. After the play, McBride approached Seeman, and the two exchanged words, with Seeman reportedly yelling profanities at the player, as captured by sideline cameras.
The NFL Players Association had previously called for accountability, emphasizing that officials should face the same consequences as players for similar behavior. Seeman, who has officiated in the NFL since 2002, joins referee Adrian Hill, who was also suspended for one game for unprofessional conduct toward a player in a separate incident during the Miami-Minnesota Vikings game.
