The Dallas Stars secured their first win of the season with a commanding 5-0 shutout over the San Jose Sharks on Monday night, thanks in large part to goaltender Jake Oettinger. Oettinger recorded his 17th career shutout by turning aside all 14 shots he faced, while Dallas’s forward corps delivered a balanced offensive display.
Jamie Benn led the scoring with a goal and an assist, and Miro Heiskanen, Joel Kiviranta, Jason Robertson, and Mikko Rantanen each added to the tally, with Heiskanen’s first-period backhand goal proving decisive. The Sharks entered the game without star center Macklin Celebrini, who was scratched before the match due to a lower-body injury.
Celebrini, recently named San Jose’s captain, had participated in warm-ups but left the ice early, forcing the team to rely on Ty Dellandrea in his place. Yaroslav Askarov made 21 saves for the Sharks, who now turn their attention to a road trip to face the St.
Louis Blues on Thursday, while the Stars head to Buffalo for their next contest.
