Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has raised concerns about potential SEC schools attempting to poach starting quarterback Anthony Colandrea ahead of the 2027 season. Colandrea, a transfer from UNLV, has been a standout performer for the Cornhuskers this year, accumulating 1,570 passing yards, 14 passing touchdowns, and 334 rushing yards with four rushing touchdowns.
His dual-threat abilities have been a key factor in Nebraska’s early success, though the team has struggled in their last two games, losing by a combined six points despite strong performances from Colandrea, including a 264-yard passing effort against Indiana’s stifling defense, which limited Heisman frontrunner Jeremiah Smith to just 68 receiving yards—his lowest total of the season. Rhule emphasized the need to retain Colandrea, warning that speculation about his future could undermine team morale, especially after last year’s loss of quarterback Dylan Raiola to a transfer.
The Cornhuskers (5-2) will take a bye week before facing Washington on October 31 in an attempt to regain their winning momentum.
