Ohio State’s championship aspirations took a significant hit following a hard-hitting injury to starting quarterback Julian Sayin during Saturday’s 19-15 victory over Indiana. Sayin, who completed 15 of 29 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns before exiting in the fourth quarter, left the game with his right arm in a sling after a late hit from Indiana defender Mario Landino.
Head coach Ryan Day confirmed Sayin will miss several weeks, leaving the Buckeyes—ranked No. 3 entering the stretch—without their primary signal-caller as they prepare for a critical stretch of games.
The injury forces the team to rely on freshman Luke Fahey, who entered the game after Sayin’s departure but struggled with just two incomplete passes, or another option like Tavien St. Clair.
With a bye week ahead before a road test against USC on October 31, the coaching staff will have time to prepare, though replacing Sayin’s production will be a challenge for Ohio State’s playoff and Big Ten title ambitions.
