Namibia made history in Windhoek on Sunday by clinching their first-ever ODI series victory over a Full Member nation, defeating Ireland 3-2 in a thrilling five-match contest. The win capped off a dominant performance in the series decider, where Namibia’s pace duo of J.J.
Smith and Jack Brassell dismantled Ireland’s batting lineup, bundling them out for just 129. Smith’s economical spell of 4/20 in nine overs earned him Player of the Match honors, while captain Gerhard Erasmus steered Namibia to a five-wicket win with a crucial 30 off 38 balls.
Erasmus also led the team’s all-round efforts, finishing as Player of the Series with 263 runs and four wickets across the five games. Ireland’s captain, Lorcan Tucker, acknowledged the disappointment, citing Namibia’s disciplined approach as the deciding factor in the series.
The victory marks a pivotal moment for Namibia ahead of their co-hosting duties for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe, though they will still need to qualify for the tournament through the World Cup Qualifier Play-off.
