Marco Melandri questioned why Jorge Martin was permitted to compete at the Malaysian Grand Prix after suffering a broken radius in his right wrist during a Phillip Island sprint crash. Despite being cleared to ride on Thursday, Martin struggled in the opening practice and withdrew from the remainder of the weekend after a brief appearance in Friday's afternoon session.
Melandri noted the inconsistency in medical decisions, comparing Martin's severe injury to a previous instance where a rider named Fernandez had a broken finger but was unable to race for two weeks.
Martin, who believes he will be 80% fit for the upcoming Qatar event, has already conceded that his title hopes are over. Marc Marquez now holds a 19-point lead in the championship standings following a second-place finish in the Sepang sprint.
