Otega Oweh, the 23-year-old former Kentucky star selected 41st overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder, will miss the entire 2026-27 campaign after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon. The injury occurred during a preseason overtime game against the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night, when Oweh collapsed after planting his right foot in a non-contact play.
The Thunder confirmed the diagnosis on Wednesday, noting that Oweh has already undergone surgery to repair the damage.
This setback follows a difficult start to his professional career, as he previously missed time due to a left foot injury sustained in his first summer league appearance. Head coach Mark Daigneault expressed his sympathy for the young player, acknowledging the severity of the situation.
Oweh, who turned 23 just days before his draft selection, is expected to focus on rehabilitation to return to the court next season.
