Louis Oosthuizen, the 44‑year‑old former British Open champion, used social media on Wednesday to confirm he will depart LIV Golf and re‑join the DP World Tour for the upcoming season. He had served as captain of the Southern Guards GC squad since LIV’s inception in 2022 and has amassed 11 DP World Tour victories, most recently at the 2023 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, with his marquee triumph coming at St.
Andrews in 2010.
His decision comes as LIV Golf wrestles with financial uncertainty after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its backing and the league filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A new $300 million investment from BC Partners is tied to conditions, and several players—including Jon Rahm, Cam Smith, Sergio Garcia, David Puig, Abraham Ancer and Patrick Reed—have already exited or are seeking releases.
Oosthuizen cited a desire for a controllable schedule and confidence in his remaining competitive years as reasons for returning to the European circuit.
