Lasith Malinga has concluded his tenure as a coach for the Mumbai Indians, ending a long-standing relationship that shaped the franchise's history. Beyond his four championship titles as a player, he was instrumental in mentoring Jasprit Bumrah, particularly in refining his death-bowling technique and yorker delivery.
Malinga had returned to the team in 2024 to oversee the bowling unit following a previous stint with the Rajasthan Royals. His departure leaves the organization without a key figure who possessed deep institutional knowledge of their bowling culture.
The franchise has struggled to secure an IPL trophy since their 2020 victory, a campaign that occurred after Malinga had already stepped away from his playing role.
