Bronny James has struggled to find his footing in the Lakers' preseason campaign, posting just 11 points and 12 turnovers across four games. His offensive production has been particularly sparse, including a scoreless outing in 11 minutes during Wednesday’s 101-89 loss to the Golden State Warriors in Las Vegas.
While the younger James has shown promise in practices, Lakers head coach JJ Redick acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to the NBA without his father, LeBron, on the roster. Redick noted that Bronny’s preseason struggles may stem from a lack of rhythm and the unfamiliarity of playing alongside new teammates, particularly in the second half of games when paired with two-way defenders like Rafael Castro, who joined the team just days before the contest.
The Lakers, currently carrying 16 players on their active roster, will need to trim their depth ahead of the October 21 regular-season opener against the Warriors. Bronny, who signed a four-year, $7.89 million deal last summer, had his 2026-27 salary guaranteed at $2.29 million after a strong 2025 preseason.
His preseason performance comes after appearing in 42 games last season, split between the Lakers and their G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers.
