Bronny James has struggled in his first four preseason games for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging just 2.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in limited minutes. His performance has been particularly weak in recent matchups, including a scoreless outing with two turnovers against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.
Despite early-season challenges, coach JJ Redick acknowledged James’ strong practice sessions but downplayed his preseason play, attributing some of the struggles to the supporting cast he’s been paired with during games. Redick noted that James has often played alongside role players like Rafael Castro, who joined the team just days before the game, suggesting the surrounding talent may not be setting him up for success.
The Lakers’ head coach also referenced a lack of rhythm and chemistry as factors, though James’ overall production remains a concern regardless of his lineups.
