India's veteran leg-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has criticized the team's selection committee for allegedly sidelining left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav in recent squad decisions. Ashwin, India's second-highest Test wicket-taker, highlighted Kuldeep's struggles to secure a consistent spot in the playing XI, particularly in overseas conditions where pace bowling is favored.
Despite Kuldeep's proven track record, including strong performances in India's recent T20 series against the West Indies, Ashwin argued that the spinner has been unfairly overlooked in favor of younger options like Varun Chakaravarthy, who is still recovering from injury. Ashwin expressed concern that Kuldeep may face similar selection challenges during India's upcoming tour of New Zealand, where he could again be passed over for opportunities to showcase his skills in challenging conditions.
The 40-year-old spinner also noted that New Zealand could pose a tougher batting challenge by preparing more demanding pitches, though he acknowledged that the white-ball format is likely to remain high-scoring regardless.
