Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak has put an end to speculation about a quarterback shakeup, reaffirming that Kirk Cousins will remain the starter despite the debut of first-round pick Fernando Mendoza. Mendoza entered the game against the New England Patriots in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, completing six of eight passes for 48 yards and nearly converting a fourth-down scramble.
Kubiak praised the rookie’s readiness, noting his quick progressions and preparation, while Cousins delivered a solid performance with 19 completions, 243 passing yards, and a touchdown. The veteran quarterback now leads the NFL in passing yards (1,268) and is tied for second in touchdown passes (12) heading into Week 5.
Beyond the quarterback situation, Kubiak addressed other roster developments, including defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway’s concussion protocol and potential offensive line adjustments to improve the team’s struggling run game. Wide receiver Jalen Nailor is expected to return from a concussion this week, while Dont’e Thornton Jr.
continues his comeback from injury, aiming to regain his starting role. Cornerbacks Darien Porter and Hezekiah Masses will also compete for the second cornerback spot, adding depth to the Raiders’ secondary.
