K.J. Britt, Elliott Davison revert to Patriots’ practice squad following Week 5

October 12, 2026

New England Patriots linebacker K.J. Britt and safety Elliott Davison have returned to the team’s practice squad following their brief elevations to the active roster after Week 5.

Britt, a 27-year-old veteran with 77 career games and 16 starts, made his 2026 debut in the Patriots’ 45-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, recording his first regular-season tackle on a kickoff return. The 6-foot, 240-pound linebacker joined New England as an unrestricted free agent in March and spent last season with the Miami Dolphins, where he led the AFC East in kickoff coverage with 76.9% of snaps.

Davison, a 24-year-old sophomore safety, also saw his first NFL action beyond the preseason, contributing two tackles and a pass deflection in the final quarter against Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza. The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2025 and spent his rookie year on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad before being retained on a futures contract in January.

Both players now have two standard elevations remaining before they would require 53-man contracts to take the field again.

The Patriots’ roster adjustments come as the team enters a critical divisional matchup against the New York Jets next Sunday. Head coach Mike Vrabel’s squad, currently 3-2, also saw cornerback Kindle Vildor promoted and safety Brenden Schooler activated from the practice squad, while fullback Reggie Gilliam and wide receiver Mack Hollins were placed on injured reserve.

With an open spot on the practice squad and roster, the Patriots will look to build depth ahead of the Jets game at Gillette Stadium.
