Josh McDaniels knows defenses are adjusting to Drake Maye. Now the Patriots must respond.

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and quarterback Drake Maye are looking to adapt as opposing defenses alter their schemes against the young passer heading into the 2026 campaign. Maye previously reached the Super Bowl and entered the MVP discussion during his sophomore year, but he experienced a difficult start to the new season in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

In that matchup, Maye threw three fourth-quarter interceptions, prompting a drop in media quarterback rankings while retaining his spot at ninth on Pro Football Focus.

Following the opening-week setback, the Patriots must also navigate a significant setback to target A.J. Brown as they prepare for a Week 2 meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Maye has emphasized the urgency for his teammates to rise to the occasion, aiming to rebound and carry the offensive load in their upcoming showdown.
