1 billion Highmark Stadium in a Thursday night regular-season clash against the Detroit Lions. Pre-game ceremonies at the venue featured pyrotechnics set off both ninety minutes before kickoff and during the formal festivities, alongside performances of both the Canadian and American national anthems accompanied by their respective flags.

Prior to the primetime contest, the stadium had completely replaced its natural turf after the surface exhibited damage following three team practices and a pair of exhibition matches.

The Thursday night matchup arrived after Buffalo secured a Week 1 road victory over the Houston Texans. In preparing for the contest against Detroit quarterback Jared Goff and the Lions, Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady also granted players valuable access to evaluate the newly laid grass surface.
