Why the NFL MVP award is already Josh Allen's to lose after Bills QB's white-hot start to season

Josh Allen has surged to a commanding position in the NFL MVP race, listed at +260 on FanDuel Sportsbook following a dominant opening two weeks of the 2026 campaign. In a Week 2 Thursday night victory against the Detroit Lions, the Buffalo Bills quarterback connected on 20 of 31 throws for 248 yards and added 69 rushing yards on 14 carries, tallying five total touchdowns.

That outing built upon his Week 1 showcase versus the Houston Texans, where he completed 20 of 29 attempts for 334 yards and two passing scores while chipping in 23 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground against a premier defense.

Across Buffalo's 18 non-clock-killing offensive series, Allen has directed the team to 10 touchdowns, three field goals, four punts, and just a lone turnover on downs. He now stands alongside only Patrick in 2018 and in 2013 as the third quarterback in league history to rack up at least nine total scores without committing a single turnover through the first two matchups of a season.
