England’s Jos Buttler has taken a significant step forward in his recovery after undergoing successful surgery on his left hamstring, an injury sustained during England’s second ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley on September 24. The 36-year-old batter, who initially walked off the field before returning briefly, has since shared an update via Instagram, confirming the procedure was a success and expressing renewed motivation to return to cricket.
His injury has already ruled him out of England’s upcoming tri-series in Pakistan and the white-ball tour of Australia in November, casting doubt over his participation in the SA20 league with Durban’s Super Giants, which begins January 17. Buttler’s setback comes despite a resurgent form, including a standout campaign in The Hundred, where he led Manchester Super Giants to the title and became the first player to reach 15,000 career T20 runs.
Amid fitness challenges—including prior calf and hamstring issues—the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently extended his contract by one year, though the deal expires before the ICC ODI World Cup 2027. England managing director Rob Key has emphasized Buttler’s continued importance to the team’s plans, ensuring his role remains secure beyond the extension period.
