Jos Buttler ruled out of Pakistan tri-series with hamstring injury, Australia tour in doubt

England batter Jos Buttler has been forced to sit out the upcoming ODI tri-series in Pakistan after suffering a hamstring tear during the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley on September 26, 2026. The injury also places his availability for the tour of Australia in November in serious jeopardy, though the England and Wales Cricket Board has not yet provided a definitive recovery timeline or severity classification.

In his absence, Jordan Cox has stepped into the wicketkeeping and middle-order roles, delivering a notable half-century in the series decider at The Oval under head coach Brendon McCullum.
