Wicketkeeper-batter John Simpson has secured a two-year contract with Nottinghamshire following the expiration of his tenure at Sussex. Budgetary limitations rather than any interpersonal breakdown prompted the departure, allowing the veteran cricketer to transition to Trent Bridge where he will compete in red-ball fixtures and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
Head coach Peter Moores noted that adding the experienced athlete provides tactical flexibility regarding overseas player selection, effectively ending the previous stint of South African international Kyle Verreynne. During his prior spell at Hove, Simpson previously lifted a Division Two crown and served as team captain before stepping down for Ollie Robinson ahead of the 2026 season.
