Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow reflected on his post-game remarks following Sunday’s 13-yard rushing total against the Jacksonville Jaguars, admitting his initial call to 'throw it more' may have been influenced by emotion. The Bengals managed just 23 rushing yards on 15 attempts—the lowest output of Burrow’s career—while he threw 54 passes, the third-highest total in his professional history.
Burrow acknowledged the need for balance, emphasizing that while the pass game performed adequately against Jacksonville’s strong defense, turnovers and poor run-game execution were key issues. To address this, the Bengals plan to incorporate more under-center plays, a strategy Burrow believes will force defenses to respect the run first and improve offensive line protection.
The team will test these adjustments in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins, where reviving the ground game will be critical to their success.
Burrow also took responsibility for his own performance, noting opportunities to better manage the game’s tempo and avoid defensive struggles tied to turnovers. Despite the setback, he reaffirmed his commitment to refining the offense, stressing that under-center plays are foundational to creating space and protecting the pocket.
The Bengals will continue developing their run game, though Burrow made clear that balance—not just volume—will define their approach moving forward.
