Team USA’s Ryder Cup struggles have taken center stage ahead of the 2027 event in Ireland, with veteran golfer Jim Furyk vowing to overhaul preparation for the alternate-shot format. The Americans have lost 13 of the last 16 foursomes against Europe, including seven of nine matches at last month’s Presidents Cup, a trend Furyk called unacceptable.
As captain, he acknowledged the shift in dominance, noting that the U.S. once held an advantage in foursomes but has since fallen behind.
Furyk, who led Team USA at the 2019 Ryder Cup, emphasized that past success in four-ball matches does not excuse the current deficit. He promised a rigorous training regimen, insisting his team will demand more than any previous American squad to address the issue.
The last U.S. victory on European soil dates back to 1993, and Furyk’s roster includes nine players born after that win, underscoring the generational gap in recent success.
Despite the odds, Furyk embraced the underdog narrative, framing the 2027 event as a chance to prove Team USA’s depth against a skeptical global audience at Adare Manor.
