Longtime Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson has announced his retirement from professional football after 14 seasons. The 36-year-old veteran, a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion, cited a need to prioritize his mental health and family life as the primary reasons for his sudden departure just four games into the current campaign.
Johnson was a surprise scratch for the team's recent 24-20 defeat against the Los Angeles Rams, a game that also saw injuries to key contributors Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith. The Eagles, currently holding a 2-2 record, now face the significant challenge of filling a void left by one of the most decorated linemen in franchise history.
Despite his early exit, Johnson maintained his high level of play through his final three appearances, allowing no sacks and only two pressures.
