Jeremiah Smith’s Heisman Case Strengthens In Ohio State’s Win Over Illinois

Jeremiah Smith strengthened his Heisman candidacy during Ohio State's opening Big Ten matchup of the 2026 season against Illinois. Although the Buckeyes failed to cover the spread as four-touchdown favorites in a surprisingly close contest, Smith delivered a historic performance with twelve receptions, 217 yards, and four touchdowns at Ohio Stadium.

Quarterback Julian Sayin also powered the offense during the first half, completing 21 of 27 passes for 272 yards and three scores to Smith, while adding six rushing attempts for 26 yards and another touchdown on the ground.
