Bangladesh finished the Asian Games in fourth place after suffering a 63-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the bronze-medal playoff held on October 3, 2026. Sri Lanka defended a total of 165 for nine by bowling out their opponents for 102 in 17.3 overs, which left Bangladesh unable to secure the gold medal they had previously claimed back in 2010.
Following the loss, head coach Mohammad Salahuddin shouldered the blame and apologized to the public for missing the squad's tournament targets. Salahuddin pointed out that a target of 166 was achievable on the pitch, but poor execution during the batting powerplay and bowling innings ultimately derailed their campaign.
