After years of serving as a consultant for the NFL's halftime entertainment, Jay-Z has officially been tapped to headline the Super Bowl 61 show. The announcement was made during the Week 7 broadcast of Monday Night Football between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell noted that he had long encouraged the artist to take the stage when the timing felt appropriate. This performance arrives 14 years after his wife, Beyoncé, served as the primary act for Super Bowl 47.
Jay-Z follows a recent string of highly successful halftime shows featuring Usher, Kendrick Lamar, and Bad Bunny, all of whom helped drive record-breaking viewership numbers for the event.
