Nebraska’s offense and defense both stand to gain from the return of two key players ahead of Friday’s Big Ten showdown with Illinois. Senior safety Jamir Conn, who led the Huskers with 26 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks in his first six games, remains a question mark after suffering an injury against Indiana.
Though he logged 73 snaps in Oregon and 67 against Washington—earning PFF grades of 84.2 and 76.8, respectively—defensive coordinator Rob Aurich confirmed Conn attended practice this week but must clear additional steps before returning. The senior’s presence would bolster a unit that has struggled without him, particularly after Caleb Benning took over in his absence.
On the offensive line, 6-foot-6, 320-pound guard Gunnar Gottula, who started Nebraska’s first seven games, is also listed as questionable after a head injury against Oregon. His absence forced the Huskers to rely on a rotation of five linemen—Elijah Pritchett, Paul Mubenga, Justin Evans, Brendan Black, and Tree Babalade—who collectively logged just 77 snaps each in the loss to Washington.
With both players listed as questionable, Nebraska’s staff must weigh caution against the potential impact of their returns in a game where every contribution could be decisive.
