James Madison’s CFP hopes take massive hit after Appalachian State ends unbeaten season

James Madison suffered its first defeat of the campaign in a 34-31 overtime loss to Appalachian State. The result snapped a 17-game winning streak against Sun Belt opponents for the Dukes and significantly damaged their prospects for a College Football Playoff berth.

James London secured the victory for the Mountaineers with a walk-off field goal. Appalachian State head coach Dowell Loggains relied on quarterback Malachi Singleton, who threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns, while receivers Nate Branch and Sam Pickett added 136 yards on 12 combined receptions.
