The Philadelphia Eagles' season has taken a sharp turn after franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out for the remainder of the year following a serious medical complication. Initially diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his calf during a recent trip, Hurts' condition worsened into a deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli—a life-threatening blockage in his lungs.
The Eagles and Hurts' agent, Nicole Lynn, released a joint statement confirming his stability but emphasizing the need for anticoagulation treatment, which prohibits any contact activity, including football. The decision to sideline Hurts came after significant uncertainty, including conflicting reports about whether he would be placed on injured reserve, which would have forced a four-game absence.
Instead, Hurts and his team opted for a season-ending absence, with both sides stressing his strong recovery outlook and expectation of no long-term effects. The Eagles, already struggling with a four-game losing streak under head coach Nick Sirianni, now face an uphill battle without their star player for the foreseeable future.
