Enes Kanter Freedom will attend Game 3 of the WNBA Finals at State Farm Arena on Wednesday, marking his return to league action after being banned from Chicago Sky home games following a controversial incident. The former NBA player announced his plans via social media, citing his admiration for Golden State Valkyries guard Gabby Williams, whose public support for transgender athletes inspired his own transition and WNBA draft declaration.
Freedom’s presence comes after he was ejected from a Sky game on August 23, when he entered the court during a timeout at Wintrust Arena, leading to a team-imposed ban. The game he attended—where Indiana Fever defeated the Sky 113-90—became the most-watched regular-season WNBA contest in history, with Caitlin Clark’s 37-point, eight-three-point performance drawing 3.82 million peak viewers.
The Sky’s owner, Michael Alter, justified the ban, calling Freedom’s actions provocative and disruptive, while Freedom later sued the team, alleging First Amendment violations over the ejection and restrictions.
