Texas suffered its second straight SEC loss with a 27-24 defeat to Florida on Saturday, raising serious doubts about the Longhorns' playoff hopes. The game saw Texas build a commanding 17-3 lead in the first half, thanks to a 32-yard touchdown run by Raleek Brown and a 64-yard punt return for a score by Ryan Niblett.
However, Florida’s backup quarterback, Tramell Jones Jr., stepped in to deliver two touchdown passes to Lacota Dippre and a key field goal, turning the tide in the fourth quarter. The Longhorns' offense struggled downfield, with quarterback Arch Manning completing just one pass over 20 yards—a 62-yard throw to Emmett Mosley V—and fumbling the ball late in the game after being sacked, sealing the loss.
Manning’s performance was inconsistent, completing 14 of 20 passes for 173 yards while facing continued pressure from Florida’s defense, including a critical stop on a fourth-and-2 draw attempt by defensive tackle Brendan Bett. The loss follows a Week 7 defeat to Oklahoma, and with a tough remaining schedule—including a matchup against ninth-ranked Ole Miss—Texas now faces an uphill battle to secure a 10-win season and playoff contention.
