Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was placed on injured reserve (IR) this week after a superficial blood clot in his leg showed signs of movement during follow-up tests. The team initially allowed Hurts to play in their Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, but an ultrasound revealed the clot had shifted, prompting a more cautious approach.
While the condition is less severe than a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), it still requires medical monitoring and treatment, with Hurts expected to miss at least the next four games. The Eagles consulted with vascular specialists, including Dr.
Henry Han of UT Southwestern, to determine the appropriate recovery timeline and treatment plan. Superficial vein thrombosis typically causes localized inflammation, redness, and tenderness but is generally managed with targeted interventions to prevent further complications.
Hurts’ absence adds uncertainty to Philadelphia’s playoff aspirations, though the team remains hopeful he can return before the season’s critical stretch.
