Indian sports wrap, October 9: Nitin Sinha stuns defending champion Sureshkumar to reach Fenesta Open final

October 9, 2026

The 31st Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship in Bengaluru delivered a thrilling upset in the men’s singles semifinals, as third seed Nitin Kumar Sinha stunned defending champion and top seed Manish Sureshkumar in a hard-fought three-set match. Sinha, who lost the first set in a tiebreak, rallied to win 6-7(6-8) 6-3 6-1, setting up a final clash against sixth seed Maan Kesharwani, who also advanced after defeating unseeded Suraj Prabodh 6-3 7-5.

Meanwhile, the doubles events saw familiar faces triumph, with Sinha and Sureshkumar teaming up to claim the men’s doubles title, while Lakshmi Arunkumar and Samhitha Chamarthi won the women’s doubles crown. The women’s singles final will feature top seed Vaidehei Chaudhari, a two-time former champion, against second seed Shruti Ahlawat, both of whom secured straight-set victories in their semifinals.

In the junior categories, Om Ramesh Patel and Ribhav Saroha will meet in the boys’ under-18 singles final after intense matches, while Praneel Sharma and Aditya Mor won the boys’ under-18 doubles title. Over in cue sports, Indian players continued their strong showing at the Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships 2026, with Dhvaj Haria, Anupama Ramachandran, and Revanna Umadevi securing final berths in their respective events.
