Bangladesh’s openers delivered a commanding start in their one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, compiling a first-day total of 317-8. Tanzid Hasan, who had just scored his first Test century against Australia, anchored the innings with an 83-ball 83, featuring eight boundaries and four sixes.
His partner, Shadman Islam, contributed a steady 67 with seven fours, as the pair built a 124-run partnership before Afghanistan’s bowling attack claimed five wickets for 101 runs. The Bangladesh middle order, however, stabilized the innings with Litton Das (53) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (24) adding 62 for the sixth wicket, pushing the total past 300.
At stumps, Nayeem Hasan remained unbeaten on 11, while Taijul Islam was on four not out. Afghanistan’s bowlers Mohammad Saleem (3-70), Ismat Alam (2-20), and Yamin Ahmadzai (2-62) shared the bowling honors, though missed opportunities, including a dropped catch by Hashmatullah Shahidi, cost them dearly.
The match is being played in Abu Dhabi due to security concerns in Afghanistan, marking the hosts’ first Test on neutral soil under these circumstances.
