In the Shadows review – true tale of Ramla Ali’s remarkable rise through the boxing ranks is a knockout

The new biopic *In the Shadows* delivers a gripping account of Ramla Ali’s extraordinary journey from Somali refugee to Olympic boxer, capturing her fight for self-determination against family opposition and personal hardship. Directed by Anthony Wonke in his feature debut, the film stars Jasmine Jobson as Ali, who in 2021 made history as the first athlete to represent Somalia at the Olympics.

Supporting roles include Finn Cole as her husband, Richard, and Gershwyn Eustache Jr. as her demanding trainer, Clinton, while the film also nods to fellow British boxer Prince Naseem Hamed.

With authentic boxing sequences and a focus on Ali’s resilience, *In the Shadows* stands as a compelling true-story sports drama.
