WBA super-featherweight champion Anthony Cacace is focusing solely on his upcoming title defense against Nick Ball, despite growing speculation about a potential showdown with Vasily Lomachenko. The 37-year-old Cacace will face Ball on December 19 at the O2 Belfast, marking his first title defense since winning the belt.
Ball, a former WBA featherweight champion, has climbed back into contention after a career-low point in February, when he suffered a stoppage loss to Brandon Figueroa following two knockdowns in the final round. The Liverpool fighter has since rebounded with three successful defenses, including victories over Rey Vargas and Raymond Ford, and now aims to become a two-weight champion by defeating Cacace.
The WBA has already mandated that the winner of this fight must face Elnur Samedov next, though Lomachenko’s reported interest adds an extra layer of intrigue for Cacace, who has long expressed admiration for the Russian star.
