The International Cricket Council (ICC) has shelved plans for a World Club Championship and additional international tournaments until at least 2031, following strong opposition from cricket’s three dominant boards: England, Australia, and India. The decision emerged after months of discussions and a recent workshop in Dubai, where no new multilateral events were approved, ensuring the 2027–2031 Future Tours Programme will remain unchanged from the current cycle.
The move underscores the boards’ reluctance to introduce further fixtures amid concerns over player workload and scheduling conflicts, with the next possible expansion now pushed back by nearly a decade.
