Former Jharkhand cricketer Saurabh Tiwary, known for his explosive batting style and iconic long hair reminiscent of M.S. Dhoni, has transitioned into administration with a mission to uplift the state’s cricketing talent.
Reflecting on his own career—marked by three ODIs for India, a standout IPL stint in its early years, and over 8,000 first-class runs at an average exceeding 47—Tiwary acknowledges the evolution of modern batting, where even young players like 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dominate with power-hitting in the IPL. As secretary of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, he prioritizes player access to facilities, allowing cricketers to train freely at Ranchi Stadium despite limited local resources.
Though he never won the Ranji Trophy or Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Tiwary aims to lead Jharkhand to victory in those tournaments, mirroring his earlier success as part of India’s 2008 under-19 World Cup-winning team alongside future stars like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.
