I hate golf | Adrian Chiles

Adrian Chiles admits to a complicated relationship with golf, one that began with an instant, almost magical connection to the sport. His first round at Gower Golf Club left him utterly captivated after a near-silent, perfectly struck shot off the third tee sent the ball soaring with effortless grace.

That initial thrill, however, was quickly tempered by the harsh reality of the game’s unforgiving nature. Just moments later, his overconfidence led to a disastrous air shot that failed to connect, followed by a clumsy strike that barely advanced the ball six inches—damaging the fairway in the process.

Though he’s tried to quit repeatedly, the allure of that perfect swing keeps pulling him back in.
