Rory McIlroy is making headlines ahead of the DP World India Championship not just for his play, but for his evolving style. The Northern Irish golfer has adopted a trendy new look—baggy golf pants—inspired by longtime Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood.
McIlroy, who has openly admired Fleetwood’s fashion choices, also revealed that he frequently wears wide-legged pants in his everyday life, calling them the latest trend. While acknowledging the pants may not be the most practical for golf, he’s treating them as a ‘work in progress.’ Beyond style, McIlroy is also focusing on long-term performance, planning to replicate his ‘performance trailer’—a fitness and recovery setup currently used on the PGA Tour—by summer 2027.
The idea was sparked by tennis legend Novak Djokovic and fellow golfer Justin Rose, who McIlroy cited as proof that sustained excellence at an advanced age is achievable. With four events remaining in the Race to Dubai, McIlroy is targeting a record-tying eighth Order of Merit title and will compete in three of the season’s final stops, including India, South Korea, and Abu Dhabi.
Currently third in the standings, he trails only Patrick Reed and Eugenio Chacarra, though Reed’s recent struggles—including a missed cut at the Spanish Open—have left the race wide open. Chacarra’s strong finishes in France and Spain have propelled him ahead of McIlroy, but the Northern Irishman remains a formidable contender heading into the season’s climax.
