Highlights from Justin Verlander’s retirement weekend

Detroit fans experienced a mix of emotions recently as the franchise closed the book on its campaign while celebrating a legendary pitcher. Justin Verlander took the mound at Comerica Park for his final appearance in professional baseball after previously announcing that the current season would be his last.

A heartfelt pre-game celebration kicked off the weekend festivities, featuring a ceremonial opening pitch delivered by the hurler's young daughter, Genevieve. Following a strong final outing on the diamond, AJ Hinch arranged for Genevieve to retrieve the game ball directly from her father.

The weekend tributes also included a custom wooden replica of his signature on-field cap, special t-shirts worn by teammates, and messages of appreciation from former colleagues and family members.
