Heartbreak for Assefa as world record slips away in Berlin

Tigist Assefa suffered late disappointment at the BMW Berlin Marathon after physical struggles in the closing mile ruined her attempt to surpass Ruth Chepngetich's world record. Despite finishing first with a course record time of 2:11:04, she required assistance after crossing the finish line following a pace that had remained on target through the first forty kilometers.

Meanwhile, Guye Adola secured another victory in the men's competition by clocking 2:02:50 to claim his second title at the German event.
