Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton compared a software malfunction that hindered multiple machines prior to the grand prix to a toy vehicle competition. A tropical downpour caused a lengthy delay, and when the field rolled out behind a safety car, several competitors struggled to drive properly due to an engine management glitch triggered by low speeds, minimal traction, and track layout factors.
Verstappen secured a dominant victory, which marked his initial win of the season, while Hamilton finished in third place.
Mercedes competitor George Russell retired from the event because of an engine failure and remarked that the situation lacked traditional grand prix characteristics. Nikolas Tombazis, who serves as the single-seater director for the governing body, stated that a comprehensive inquiry will take place.
He explained that while the system had undergone testing, it had not been evaluated under those precise wet conditions because of limited track time during rainy weather throughout the campaign.
