Guimaraes and Raya crucial - Sunderland v Arsenal player ratings

David Raya delivered a pivotal display for Arsenal, turning away Enzo Le Fee's tame spot-kick after Ezri Konsa brought down Dan Ballard in the box. Bukayo Saka later earned and barely converted a penalty of his own, which saw Sunderland's Reinildo Mandava dismissed following a prior caution.

The visitors had to weather serious turbulence, substituting Ben White and Myles Lewis-Skelly after difficult opening halves, while Konsa also endured a torrid outing against the physically dominant Brian Brobbey.

Sunderland pushed hard through Granit Xhaka's deliveries, Noah Sadiki, and Nordi Mukiele, who squandered chances to level against Raya late on. Robin Roefs produced an acrobatic stop against Kai Havertz despite errant goal kicks, while Declan Rice managed to set up Guimaraes amid an otherwise scruffy showing.
