Guernsey beat Jersey to win historic league meeting

Guernsey secured a bonus-point away victory over Jersey in the clubs' first league clash since their Hampshire One encounter during the 1994-95 campaign. Following their 35-27 Siam Cup triumph at Footes Lane back in May, the visiting Sarnians gradually seized command after the interval.

Capitalising on a sin-binning for host player Jack Higgins, Matt Armstrong touched down for Guernsey's sixth try with ten minutes remaining to seal the result in the English fourth tier.

Jersey originally formed their amateur squad to navigate the English pyramid alongside the professional Jersey Reds, but they evolved into the island's primary side following the Championship titleholders' financial collapse in 2023. They subsequently earned three promotions across four seasons to reach Guernsey's level.

After the final whistle, Guernsey director of rugby Jordan Reynolds praised his team's dominance of territory and possession across the full match despite occasional errors, while Jersey boss Myles Landick lamented poor discipline after his squad spent twenty minutes down to fourteen players due to a pair of yellow cards.
