Gloucestershire fast bowler Craig Miles has chosen to end his professional cricket career to focus on his psychological well-being. The thirty-two-year-old bowler shared his choice through a public note on a social media platform, acknowledging that the persistent pressure and high personal standards he maintained created an unsustainable environment.
He noted that while he had previously managed similar challenges during his younger years by viewing them as temporary hurdles, the recent intensity and self-doubt severely impacted his confidence and relationship with the sport.
His departure highlights a broader concern within English cricket regarding mental health difficulties among athletes. Several prominent figures have previously stepped away from the game due to stress and related illnesses, including Marcus Trescothick, Sarah Taylor, and Jonathan Trott, all of whom faced similar struggles during their respective playing careers.
