New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips is on the verge of cricket history as he eyes a world record in the final T20 International against India this Sunday. The right-handed batter has already amassed 276 runs in the series, including a blistering 107 off 49 balls in the fourth match, and needs just 56 more to surpass England’s Phil Salt’s mark of 331 runs in a bilateral T20I series.
Phillips is also chasing two other milestones: breaking Mark Chapman’s New Zealand record of 290 runs in a series and becoming only the third player to score four or more fifties in a single bilateral T20I campaign. With Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Japan’s Sabaorish Ravichandran the only others to achieve that feat, Phillips’ potential half-century in the final match could cement his legacy in the format.
